Martin Ødegaard did very well for Eredivise side Heerenveen on his 18 months loan period. Now he has joined another Eredivise side SBV Vitesse who under new manager Leonid Slutsky have showed some ultra attacking football in their first two Eredivise games this season that they won 5-1 against Groningen and held on Heerenveen away on a scoreline of 1-1.

Coming to Vitesse's style of play under Slutsky, they start in 4-2-1-3, while defending they keep it 4-3-3 where one of the two central midfielders shift to CDM position. While attacking they keep it 4-2-4, one out of the attacking midfielder & three forwards makes a quick sprint after they break on transition while the other three make run to the box. Vitesse overload the opponent box with 4-5 players on their every attack. They keep their shape compact and support range narrow throughout the game. Now coming to the role that Ødegaard could be playing in Slutsky's attacking system, he would be playing behind the 3 forwards in CAM role in my humble opinion. Slutsky used Slovak midfielder Matúš Bero as number 10 during the first two games in Eredivise and also in Europa League qualifying round playoff against Basel.

Ødegaard is an upgrade over Bero without a shadow of doubt, especially in the role Bero is playing under Slutsky i.e. number 10. Ødegaard is more creative, more technical and attack wise more reliable. Besides he has a competition for him in Matúš Bero which would be helpful for both the players.
