Japan national team do not wear the red and white colors that appear on their flags.
Japan belongs to a group of countries whose main color in their soccer jerseys has nothing to do with what appears on their flags. The Japanese official jerseys are blue shirts matched with blue pants and blue socks - although sometimes the white is introduced in the pants.
Why is Japan wearing blue?
There was no unanimous answer, nor was there a valid answer, but some options.
On one hand, it is said that blue is a great contrasting color to match the white and red Japan flag according to Saburo Kawabuchi in the 1990s.
Another second version says that "it represents the blue sky and the ocean that symbolizes the territory of Japan".
For these reasons, some say that the reason why the Japanese use blue is uncertain and unknown. Although some say the truth is that the color red is the color commonly used by the two most popular rivals of Japan in the continent; South Korea and China.
It is true that red is used as the first kit for several years between 1988 and 1992. By not qualifying for the 1990 World Cup or the Olympic Games in 1992, they finally get rid of the red believing it was a curse.
