Sometimes when high profile players one would have expected to be the driving of team becomes a bench warmer or is rarely featured in a match by the Coach, it raises my antenna of curiosity. I have made blogs about similar situations as regards Victor Moses at Chelsea, Philippe Coutinho at Barcelona and Isco at Real Madrid. So today, I wanna briefly explore the situation the once glorious Alexis Sanchez at Old Trafford.

The Chilean Striker had arrived Old Trafford about 12 months ago from Arsenal to further his football career under Jose Mourinho, and to tell you that those months experiences under Jose Mourinho are close to what we all expected, will be a gross lie.

Many had thought he will be the motivation United needed, or was it because of the former Coach? The former united boss rarely featured him, and the little playing moments he got were not enough him to blossom like the Sanchez we used to see at Barcelona and perhaps Arsenal.

So far, the expectations and the reality as regards Sanchez's adventure at Manchester United have been antithetical, as he appears forgotten with every rise of a new sun. His impact has been below what was expected, scoring just four goals in 32 appearances at Old Trafford. Isn't that too low for a player of his pedigree?

How Sanchez got lost even in a Struggling team like United under Mourinho beats my imagination. And The Interim coach Solksjare taking over the lever of power after Mourinho's sack earlier on December hasn't changed anything much about the Chilean plight on the sidelines. I was expecting to see him find a place under the new dispensation of Ole, but nothing is forth coming. Hence, the reason for this evaluation.

With the appointment of new coaches, there is always a high possibility of some players falling out of favour or preference, and others who hitherto weren't being featured by the former coaches becomes favourites. These things happen. However, there is a big question mark when a player isn't featured by both the former and the newly appointed manager. And to the best of my observations, that's the issue Alexis is going through now. Maybe, Solksjare will consider him more playing time subsequently, but I doubt that possibility.

What Could Be The Reason Behind Alexis Sanchez's Plight At United?

So many unanswered questions have been springing up in my head, as I continue wondering the possible cause of the Chilean poor performance and impact under Manchester United shirt. Why isn't Alexis sparkling like he used to be for Arsenal and what's the reason behind his inability to get the goals coming. Could it be that he hasn't been given consistent playing time to prove his mettle or is it a case of laxity on his part? All these and many more are the questions I bring to the table.

Despite Alexis Sanchez's pool of plights at Old Trafford, there were also scanty moments that he made his presence felt on the pitch, even though these moments came once in a blue moon. Those unexpected moments of bursts did give a glimpse of hopes about his possible impact on the team, but the Chilean has gone on wane by the day.

I would arguably say that Sanchez's most memorable moment in Manchester United shirt came this season when they played against Newcastle at Old Trafford in October. With just twenty minutes more to play, Manchester United were still 2-0 down to Newcastle. However, with the introduction of Sanchez, Manchester staged a 3-2 comeback. That match saw him end an 854 minutes goal drought in the Premier league.

Though others may say it came during Manchester United's Clash with Manchester City, which saw him create three chances and two assists in the match. These having been said, The Chilean's struggles in the club has been so overwhelming that his little impacts appear insignificant.

Maybe Sanchez made a wrong move by heading to Old Trafford or maybe it's because of his strained relationship with Jose Mourinho. Some also say it could be the injury he sustained. Whatever the case may be, the Chilean is still hopeful that he could find his way back under Solksjare. The Interim coach said “He's champing at the bit in training,” Solskjaer said, via the Mirror. “His attitude has been fantastic in training and I'm looking forward to seeing him, I've got loads of good players to choose from.”

Do you think Alexis Sanchez should Remain at Old Trafford and Work hard to Break into the team under Solksjare, or should he seek greener pastures elsewhere?
