Good morning/day sports lovers. It's going to be another interesting Tuesday night as we look forward to some mouthwatering fixtures in the UEFA champions league. Today, Frank Lampard's Chelsea will be welcoming the German champions to Stamford Bridge, as they look forward to kick-starting their European glory quest. It's the first leg of the round of 16 between the Blues and Bayern Munich, and I'm pretty sure the Bavaria club will want to take advantage of the away goal privilege by taking their chances when they come knocking. Going forward, it's important to bring to your notice that Chelsea qualified from Group H where they came second on goal difference behind Valencia, despite both teams having 11 points. Chelsea were only able to secure three wins, two draws and one defeat during the group stage. At the other side of the river is a poised Bayern side who have an 100% result thus far in this edition of the Champions league, probably one of the reasons why they are picked as one of the favorites in the competition as far as this campaign is concerned.

They are the only team that won all their group stage matches. Bayern came top of Group B with 18 undiluted points from six matches. It only shows that Chelsea have got a big mountain to climb if they must reach the last eight, despite coming off a recent 2-1 victory against Jose Mourinho's Tottenham. A look at the Blues previous five matches across all competitions shows the Blues haven't been stable in terms of form. In those previous five encounters, the Blues have only been able to secure victory over Hull City and Tottenham, played draw with both Arsenal and Leicester, while succumbing to a 0-2 defeat to Manchester United at Stamford Bridge not too long ago. With the Premier league appearing to have been sealed by Liverpool, Lampard will throw everything into their Champions league dream while they hope for the best. While they may not be the favorite against Bayern today, I don't think their visitors will be comfortable playing against Chelsea. By the way, let's take a cursory look at Bayern Munich going into this game.

The defending Bundesliga Champions are the favorites against Chelsea and they are coming off a not too smooth 3-2 victory against a relegation threatened Paderborn side over the weekend. While Bayern are currently topping the Bundesliga, you will agree with me that it hasn't been easy for them. Coming into the Champions league, they have only one desire and that's to Lift the European Silverware that has eluded them for some years now. Thus far, they have been resolute about their drive in this competition and won't like to gamble against a resilient Chelsea side at Stamford Bridge this night. Bayern have been very brutal in attack so far, scoring a whooping 24 goals in the Group stage. With Lewandowski being in full form to power the attack, Chelsea defenders will really have to be extraordinary to keep these Bayern goal wolf at bay. The best result Chelsea can get out of this game is not conceding a goal against Bayern at Stamford Bridge, that will give them an advantage in the second leg just like Diego Simeone's Athletico Madrid did against the reigning Champions Liverpool last week. In all, it promises to be an entertaining game.

My Match Prediction:

Chelsea 1-2 Bayern
