Tuesday night Champions League duel in Turin between the Italian Champions Juventus and their visitors Athletico Madrid left many in utter bewilderment. It was a night of emotions and trust me, many doubted the outcome of that game. If there are events that beats your imagination in the game of soccer, I wouldn't be surprised if you were shocked yesterday night. Not only did the Old ladies come back from a two goals deficit against Diego Simeone's side, but also the fact that it Christiano Ronaldo's masterful performance that delivered the Allegri's side from the defensive claws of Athletico.

It was another glorious night for the Portuguese captain, after having to struggle in the competition, especially as regards scoring of goals(that's all he knows how to do after all). Before yesterday's encounter with his former city rivals in Spain, Ronaldo's Champions league outing was far below his standard. He was given his first marching orders in the competition in his debut match for his new club, it was pathetic. However, he knows the best time to show the stock he is made of, and there couldn't have been a better moment than Yesterday night.

While many have been sarcastic towards the former Madrid star man's possible impact on Juve team as regards the competition, others have said that Juventus have ended up signing an expired product. Ronaldo have kept his cool and absorbed the pressure, as people continued to doubt his capability of replicating his European feats with The Italian Champions. He has his moments and trust me, he always storms out at the right moment. Deep inside the five times Ballon d'Or winner, he knows the major reason why The Italian Champions spent so much on bringing him to Turin was to stand a chance of winning the Champions league which have eluded them for decades.

After his talismanic performance that saw him fire The Italian Champions beyond the round of 16, Christiano Ronaldo told Sky Sport Italia: “It had to be a really special night and it was. If we continue like this, we have not won yet but we have reasons to be proud and we are on the right way. That's why Juve signed me and I tried to do my best job. It's a magical night. It was a very difficult team to play but we showed that we were a very big team. We proceed step by step, we will see.” Whichever way anyone wants to see it, you just can't overrule the fact that this guy is a Champions league specialist. I doubt if Athletico were that surprise that Ronaldo became thorn on their flesh, I believe by now, Simeone's side must have gotten used to his god-like status.

It took the Portuguese star's eight Champions league hat-trick to down the hopes of Simeone's side progressing to the quarterfinals, will he ever stop scoring I always ask myself. His yesterday night goals against Athletico Madrid meant that Ronaldo has now scored 124 goals in the Champions League, and guess what, it's more than all the goals that Athletico have netted in the competition (118). That sounds funny right? Well, It's just like Messi that have scored more goals than Benfica in the competition. However, I wanna be careful not to digress, this blog is about the Portuguese star and not the Argentine Legend.

Juventus had to do it the hard way after succumbing to a 2-0 defeat at the Wando Metropolitano in Spain. But in a night where it seemed like it was impossible for the Bianconeri's to upturn the two goals deficit, Ronaldo's Aerial power was all it took to humble the visitors. The game ended 3-0(3-2 aggregate). It was an unprecedented comeback as the last time Juventus progressed in a Champions League knockout game despite being defeated in the opening leg was against the German side Werder Bremen during the 2005-06 edition. Despite the VAR review depriving the home side a 4th minute opener, it took the Portuguese powerful header to set Juventus on the road of unsettling Athletico. And at the end, he will later net a brace to complete a hat-trick and send Simeone's side packing.

It was so bad that Athletico Madrid failed to find a shot on target, how does one explain that. Antonie Grizmann lost his spark and couldn't pull any talismanic stunt to redeem his team from the overwhelming atmosphere in Turin. Moratta tried his best upfront, but he was no match for the experienced Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci. The Portuguese living legend has now netted a total of 25 goals against Athletico Madrid in his career. This performance has proved that Juventus investment in Ronaldo is not a waste, and the Portuguese star is far from hitting his professional menopause.
