It promises to be an Epic clash on Sunday as League champions Manchester City welcomes Chelsea to Etihad Stadium. There is a tensed atmosphere as losing a game is the last thing on City's mind. However, here comes another tough hurdle for them if they must keep their hopes of title defense alive.

You will recall that Chelsea was the first team to defeat Manchester City this season and puncture the defending champions unbeaten run. A defeat that went a long way bring down City's morale while sending a message that The Citizens are not invincible. Pep's side struggled after that 2-0 loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and will later lose their position as the league leaders to the high flying Liverpool side.

It was their first leg encounter in the league this season and it went in The Blue's favour. However, tomorrow presents Manchester City with another opportunity to take their pound of flesh on Sarri's side that put them to the sword. It's time for revenge and luckily for the champions, it's gonna be happening at the Etihad tomorrow. Sergio Kun Aguero's scoring boots will be needed again, especially after the Argentine forward singlehandedly dislodged Arsenal in a 3-1 encounter.

Chelsea in recent times have had some internal misunderstanding between some players and their coach Sarri, especially as regards their playing style. However, the blues have shown they are not ready to banter words with their coach as they prefer to react to Sarri's criticisms on the pitch. This game against City tomorrow will be another occasion to show their resilience in face of turbulence.

The blues missed the glorious atmosphere and warmth of the Champions league this season, and are not looking forward to missing out on the next edition. Dropping points against City tomorrow is not part of their options if such mission must be accomplished. With Manchester United now sitting tentatively on the fourth position after beating Fulham 3-0 today, Chelsea will have to avoid defeat if they must claim back their position.

In their past five encounters, both teams have shown resilience, however, Manchester city have gone home with more victories. The Citizens have won three of their last five clashes and have suffered two defeats as well. The blues have scored four goals in those meetings and have also conceded five goals from City. It's definitely gonna be a tough clash tomorrow as both teams stand almost same chance of being defeated.

TEAM STATS:

Manchester City

As at the time of drafting this blog, The English Premier league table sees the defending champions sitting tentatively at the top of the table with 62 points from 26 games. However, that position could be taken away from them if Liverpool emerges victorious against Bournemouth today. The Citizens have won 20 games so far this season, drew 2 and have also suffered 4 defeats.

Pep Guardiola's side have also recorded 66 goals already in the league after firing 448 shots and hitting 174 on target. The Citizens have also displayed a level of discipline this season as they have recorded 33 yellow cards with only one red card so far. Wait... Is that really a disciplined team as I call them? Well, someone should disagree with that.

City's Last Five Games In All Competitions

A brief look at Manchester city's previous five games in all competitions shows the team aren't performing badly or below expectations, to an extent, I think they're on course and haven't lost their sting yet. They ha e won four and lost one game in their last five outings, and that was a shocking 2-1 defeat they suffered in the hands of Newcastle United last month in the league. Aside that loss, they have shown great game play in other four games. Pep's side have also scored 12 goals and conceded 3 in those five games. It's a stats Chelsea needs to be wary of.

Chelsea

At the other end is a Chelsea side that have been struggling but have made sure they don't slip out of the champions league zone. However, with an in form Manchester United having defeated Fulham 3-0 today, The reds have toppled Chelsea pending the outcome of their game against Manchester City tomorrow at the Etihad stadium. Sarri's side will need to win that game if they must stay within the top four zone.

The Blues are now fifth on the log with 50 points from 25 games so far this season. Sarri's side have recorded 15 wins, settled for 5 draws and have also been defeated 5 times. They have 45 goals so far after firing 394 shots with 133 hitting the target. However, the blues appear a bit more disciplined than City as they are yet to record any red card this season. That having been said, they have recorded 31 yellow cards already in this campaign.

Chelsea's Last 5 Games In All Competitions

I wouldn't say the blues have been consistent as portrayed by their performance in their last five outings in all competitions. They have lost two games and recorded three victories. However, they have conceded six goals in those two defeats and nine in all those five games. That having been said, Sarri's side have also scored 14 goals in those five games. What this means is that they need to tighten their defense ahead of their clash with a goal conscious City side tomorrow, if they must stand a chance of getting away with a win.
