The battle for survival in the German Bundesliga this season appears a bit more competitive than what we've been witnessing for some time now. With even Bayern Munich struggling to fight their way back to the top, it's a reflection that other clubs are beginning to take up the gauntlet. It's no more business as usual and the Bavaria club may likely not get the trophy easily this time. That having been said, Saturday witnessed an interesting Bundesliga encounter between Borussia Dortmunt and Augsburg, a game that saw a whooping 8 goals poured into the net. Dortmund may not be having their best run in pursuit of a league title, but they're surely not out of the race, as Saturday's emphatic 3-5 win over Augsburg ensured they maintain unwavering pressure on Bayern who are currently sitting at the 3rd position in the league. Lucien Favre's side once again showed their fighting spirit in a daunting challenge against a resilient home side, and had to come from behind to steal a win and perhaps keep their quest of lifting the Bundesliga alive. Dortmund are currently sitting 4th in the log with 33 points after Saturday's win. After 18 league games so far, they have lost 3 games and have recorded 6 draws, with the Saturday 3-5 victory over Augsburg made it their 9th win this season. But then, there is something more spectacular that happened during the game, and I think it's worth the attention.
Yea, Dortmund must have staged an ovation worthy comeback, but they will owe more praise to the magic of their latest signing Erling Haaland. The young forward was electrifying and his clinical finishes upfront helped inspire his new home to an amazing victory. He had come in from the bench, but it seems the young lad doesn't need ages to make his intentions in Dortmund shirt known, "scoring goals." Haaland netted a hat-trick in his debut match for Dortmund, to help his side to a commendable victory. I think if they are people who won't be happy about Haaland playing for Dortmund, it should be Manchester United fans who would have wished to have Haaland at Old trafford. In fact, each Goal from Haaland may feel like sharp stab on United fans, as they lost out in their pursuit of the stripper. He came into the game in the 56th minute to replace Lukasz Piszczek, and it seems his first goal was his first touch on the game, I stand to be corrected. Dortmund had spent €20 million to bring the 19 year old to Signal Iduna park, and from all indications, he is happy at Dortmund. BVB coach minced no words in showing his delight after the game. "He has started very well," Dortmund head coach Favre told Sky . "He immediately showed his strengths with his runs in behind, and of course he scored three goals which is incredible. He moves well between the lines, which gives us another way of attacking. He was very good and did very well. At 19 years old, he has a huge potential for improvement, that's the most important thing. It was a crazy game." In all, it's a big win for Dortmund and their dream of lifting the German Bundesliga is as real as it appears.
