It has been put beyond debate in most quarters that the major reason why the Italian Champions Juventus, spent so much money in bringing Christiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid to Turin, was because of the perceived Champions league magic, or if you like expertise wield by the Portuguese.

No doubt, the Portuguese living legend has been talismanic for his new club in the Italian Seria A, doing what he knows how to do best, Scoring goals! The Five times Ballon d'Or winner has 19 league goals already, and have provided 8 assists in the league. Now that's a statistic that is identical with the superstar, and I doubt if many would be surprised.

Juventus is now coasting to victory after 25 games this season. They are 13 points clear of Second placed Napoli. Also the Old ladies are still unbeaten this season, having won 23 of those games and drew only two. No doubt, Ronaldo's arrival have increased Juventus's fan base and economic sector across the World, especially here in Africa. But is that the major reason why the Old Ladies wanted his services in Turin? I doubt.

Many football analysts are of the opinion that the former Real Madrid star man is fulfilling little of why Juventus brought him to Italy. The league is of little worry to the Old ladies, as they have exerted unparalleled dominance in the Seria A, and are already en route their eight consecutive league title. With or without Ronaldo's arrival in Turin, Juventus would have still gone on to win the Italian league, as the likes of Napoli, AC Milan, Inter Milan, Roma etc are yet to match their class in Italy.

After Juventus's round of 16 first leg Champions League outing against Athletico Madrid, fans have turned their eye to the shortcomings or inability of Christiano Ronaldo to inspire the team to an ovation Worthy performance, especially as regards the attacking cadre of the team. Ronaldo was kept are bay by Simeone's aggressive defense play, and he was not able to deliver the Italian giants from the Claws of Athletico.

With Champions League elimination staring boldly into the face of Juventus at just the round of 16, they're concerns and controversies that Ronaldo is not the Champions League Messiah Juventus may have seen him to be. With two goals deficit against a strong defensive team like Athletico Madrid in European Competition, many have already predicted the elimination of Juventus.

Could they have played better without Ronaldo, or have they been having a better outing before Ronaldo's arrival? All these questions have been creeping into the minds of Juventus faithfuls, and it's only a matter of time before we all arrive at a conclusion. While some are still waiting for him to prove his mettle, others believe his glorious days in Madrid's shirt could be linked to the caliber of players in Madrid, who decided to sacrifice so much to put him at the Vanguard.

Roberto Mancini, who is the incumbent Italian national side coach and even a former inter and Manchester City coach has aired his view on the issue, and he is also of the opinion that the Portuguese superstar have been performing below expectations in the Champions league. Despite acknowledging Ronaldo's flying form in the domestic league, Mancini minced no words in expressing how difficult it will be to turn the table against Athletico after Juve were beaten 2-0 at the Metropolitano.

“There’s no magic formula for the comeback, but Juve are an experienced team and they came back from 3-0 down at home to Real Madrid last season. Perhaps Ronaldo isn’t doing in the Champions League what he’s done in the past, but he’s always achieved important things. He’s doing well in Serie A. I think at his level, it’s hard anywhere. The league in Italy is as difficult as it is in England and a little less so in Spain, but for me he’s having a good season.” Mancini Said.

Ronaldo's debut Champions league game for Juventus came with a bad omen, as he picked his first ever Champions league red card. It was a teary outing for a man who was signed to deliver the team from their years of European drought. However, Juventus have managed to thrive into the round of 16 and guess what? The goal banger has just one champions league goal so far for his new employers. Though Allegri has stayed calm concerning Ronaldo's Champions league form, the fact still remains that the team were performing better at this stage last few years before Ronaldo arrived.

"Ronaldo is world's best, so Juve have slight advantage. Simeone? He had great character as a player and he’s made his team very difficult to face. They also annoy you in certain situations at home." Allegri said. On the 12th of March, the world will fix their gaze on Ronaldo to how he will inspire Juventus past the walls of Athletico. There may not be a better moment to prove his mettle. But till then, let's all keep our fingers crossed.
