Lots of pressure have been mounting on governments and football governing bodies to bring sporting activities to a half pending when the current ravaging Coronovirus is brought under control. The past weeks have seen soccer activities in Europe suspended due to the continuous increase in corona cases, especially as players and coaches started testing positive to the epidemic. However, they're some countries that have been a bit recalcitrant in football activities to a halt, one of those country is Nigeria. After failing to ban flights from infected countries, the most populous black nation in the world have now recorded cases of the virus, especially in one of her most populated states Lagos. The government which hitherto declined to close borders or shut down institutions have now been forced to regulate gatherings, as a measure to combat Civic-19.

Just not too long ago, the Nigerian Football Federation(NFF) which is headed by Mr Amaju Melvin Pinnick. According to the statement of the NFF spokesman, Ademola Olajire on Wednesday, he said "The Nigeria Football Federation has announced the cessation of all forms of football activities in the country for the next four weeks, as a result of the global coronavirus pandemic." For me, this action by the NFF have been long overdue, they should have suspended these games before now, but they were probably thinking it won't get to Nigeria. The football activities postponed includes regional divisions, the Nigeria National league, Nigeria Nationwide league, the Nigeria Professional Football League and even Nigeria Women's Football Leagues. I also use this opportunity to urge us to take preventive measures to avoid the spread of this virus to either us or our love ones. Incessant washing of hands and avoiding unnecessary crowd can go a long way to keep us safe till football activities returns to normal.
