PREMIER LEAGUE: Diogo Jota expresses title optimism

Heading into the new year, Manchester City sit top of the Premier League table. With 9 points ahead of Liverpool in second place.

However, Portuguese and Liverpool striker Diogo Jota has shared his thoughts on the title. According to Jota, Liverpool have what it takes to close the points gap between themselves and the Citizens.

Liverpool have a starting point

The next game for the Jurgen Klopp-led side would be against Chelsea. Hence, if they have plans to close the gap against Manchester City, they have to start by defeating Chelsea.

If Liverpool emerge victorious over Chelsea, they close the gap to 6 points for the time being. However, if they lose to Chelsea, they stand the risk of extending the gap to a 12 point margin.

Liverpool would be without their key men

A complete Liverpool squad may have found it easier to get one over Chelsea. However, the likes of Sadio Mane, Mohammed Salah and Naby Keita would be unavailable for team selection.

Arguably, these have been by far Liverpool's best players this season. Yet, all would be unavailable for selection, as they would be representing their nations in the AFCON tournament.

Overview

The optimism of Diogo Jota is good. However, closing the gap between City and themselves requires more than optimism.

Only time would reveal if Liverpool can talk the talk, and work the work.
