TRANSFERS: Tottenham's Steven Bergwijn gets suitors

Dutch side Ajax have approached Tottenham with an 18 million euros bid for winger Steven Bergwijn.

Before the start of the January transfer window, Tottenham had stated that they would be listening to offers for the winger. Hence, Ajax seem to be taking no chances on the opportunity to sign the winger.

Bergwijn and the Eredivisie

The winger is no newcomer to what life is at the Eredivisie. He once played for PSV before making his way to the premier league. Hence, moving to Ajax would not be exactly new to him.

Despite the interest from Ajax, there exists another option for Bergwijn. English side Newcastle have also expressed interest in the winger.

Knowing what Newcastle stand for in modern football, it is easy to see why this is a tempting offer for Bergwijn.

Bergwijn's offers

In terms of winning league and cup trophies, Ajax seem like a better option for Bergwijn. More to that, if he considers playing immediate champions league football, Ajax could still be a better option.

Nonetheless, if he is attracted to England, and he believes in Newcastle's project long-term, then he could take their option.

Overview

Whichever team he goes to, Bergwijn's qualities could go a long way in aiding the team.

We can only wait, watch and see how events pan out.
