When issues of wages especially its reduction is not usually welcomed with open arms, it is not a surprise that players of the English Premier League (EPL) and other Leagues refused to lower their wages. This stance by football players is causing unnecessary confusion and if care is not taken, the cordial relationship existing between the players and the management of their respective clubs will greatly be effected.

Captains of the Premier League are making the headlines in England. The word out there is 'revolt' and indeed this reference is not far from the truth. On the front page of the Daily Mirror. It is said that the kind of unity being demonstrated b the players is unprecedented and this is so due to the fact that they do not want to reduce their wages. A possible explanation to this cohesion was that the refusal to lower their wages is because even if that were to be done, it will not benefit the general public who need it the most, but it will end up benefiting the wealthy owners of the various clubs. Although they have indicated that they not closed to negotiations as regards reduction in wages and are willing to help out in whatever capacity.

Information making rounds is that the Captains who are the most united are the ones spear heading the revolt against clubs for the call on reduction in EPL players wages. Since the government and the clubs are the ones who came together to approach the players it will not be wrong to suppose that the revolt is also against the government of England or in fact against her Majesty, the Queen of England. It is a good thing that the doors of negotiations are not over yet between the two parties. Although the exact amount to be reduced has not made the headlines yet, there is every chance that the two parties will reach an amicable agreement at the end of the day for the sake of the Corona pandemic and people who have been infected by it.

The stance not to reduce their wages by football stars is not confined to the EPL alone. Players of Belgian football club, Standard FC also are putting their foot firmly on the ground. Numerous players have already indicated their unwillingness to temper with their emoluments during this crisis. We all know that championship of any kind has come to a halt in virtually all football competitions world over, except for one or two countries, there is a great deal of uncertainty surrounding wages in regards to the corona virus pandemic.

In Spain, Barcelona football club wants to rid itself of undesirable players. Newspapers are awash with the report that Rakitic has been shown the way out. One will not blame the club o any other club for that matter for seeking some kind of liquidity in other to prepare for the incoming football season considering that this present season has been buried by the Corona scourge. Lets not forget also that the club had three good offers previously from the Serie-A. If it weren't for the fact that Italy has suffered the most during the Corona pandemic, one will be tempted to say that it wants to take the advantage of the confusion in Spain to do itself a good turn.

If Covid-19 continued to hold sway, i am sure we will continue to here and see more disagreement emanating not just between football clubs, but other sports as well. Basketball in the USA which has been hard hit may follow suit especially. One can only but encourage to teeming sports athletes out there to put humanity first before putting self. Also let the club management approach the issue with a human face so that athletes will not feel cheated at the end of the day.

Let there be life and health on earth first, then other things can follow.

STAY AND KEEP SAFE.

Sincerely @izge.
