When it comes to the Afcon, there is so much that has happened so far that put this tournament at one of the best that has been held so far. One of them would undeniably be the fact that they have been collapses by teams who we thought would pose a serious title to the challenge. Team’s like Morocco and even the hosts Egypt have all fallen aside in what would seem to be smaller teams on the African continent. This is the notion which follows us into the Quarterfinal stage of this tournament where Nigeria one of the favorites would host Bafana Bafana.

Nigeria

Nigeria simply loves playing against South Africa. For some reason, they don't seem to know how to lose when up against South Africa. They have won every single match that they have played against them in the Afcon prior to this one and have lost just two competitive games against South Africa and they would feel highly confident in their chances against this team. However, they would be wary of the fact that South Africa were the ones who removed the hosts in what was surely an exciting fixture. However, Nigeria would know that they are the holders of their own fate and would do so much better.

South Africa

South Africa is clearly on cloud nine at the moment. There is nothing better than coming out victorious against the hosts of the Afcon who are also the favorites to win the title. With that in their minds, they would go into their competition against Nigeria with the firm belief that they can do it all again. However, they would also be conscious of their hurdle they seem to face whenever they come against Nigeria and that would be a test that is firmly on their minds. However, every team in the Afcon can be defeated and so can the Super Eagles of Nigeria. It is clearly set up to be a match between the rivals.

Form

Nigeria has been in good form for a while now and par a defeat against Madagascar, they are looking nice and comfy. Their recent form can be seen in their comeback against Cameroon where they showed strength and resilience in the way they fought back to win. However, they would need to be mentally ready for the speed and organized football which the South Africans play. That type of football can penetrate any team.

South Africa would not be fooled by the turn of events that saw them overcome the hosts. Before then they have simply not been good enough and were lucky to even get to the next round of the competition. However, the win against Egypt would simply have given them a boost and a swagger to their performance. That and some focused high-level football could be enough to ensure that they come out victorious. Will Nigeria continue to haunt South Africa? There is only one way in which we can find out.
