Christmas is over, and the teams are back on the playing field to solidify their position on the premier league table. Now back from their Christmas respite, Man United is set to face Burnley’s ferocious players right in their home court. This comes a day after Everton ended a two-game win streak for Burnley on boxing day. Man United, on the other hand, got better results in their head to head against Newcastle, where they responded to Burnley’s 1-0 defeat with an ardent 4-1 victory.
Whereas we expect that man United’s newly gained confidence will show them to the playing field with their heads high up above their shoulders, we still cannot ignore their inconsistency in delivering topnotch performance during playoffs. It is also worth mentioning that Manchester United has not kept a clean sheet in fourteen premier league games. Even though their last four games with their current rival ended without a single ball evading the hands of their talented goalkeeper, Saturday’s game will be different.
The teams Stat
Looking at the three previous playoffs between the two sides, Man United has a more significant advantage on the playing field. For one, their three last matches in Burley’s courtyard ended with Man United at the winning side of the Scoreboards. On top of that, Man United’s recent four visits to Turf Moor, Burnley’s camp, ended with Man United conceding zero goals.
With this result and their newly found confidence, there may be no stopping Manchester United in this head to head against Burnley.
Burnley, on the other hand, had a relatively good start this season with two of their previous league matches before Everton ending with their names tattooed on the right side of the scoreboards. Nevertheless, the 1-0 defeat against Everton on boxing day has set them back a notch on the table.
With 3 out of 5 of their last matches with Manchester United ending in a defeat, Burley certainly has more to prove than man united come Saturday. The good news, however, is that their last premier league game with the Red Devils ended with a level 2-2 draw. Now, battling against a somewhat inconsistent United, Burnley may increase their reach to end the game with their fans chanting a victory song.
What to expect on the playing field?
Of a truth, Manchester United has not been very consistent in its performance this season. However, since their emphatic win over Manchester City a few weeks ago, they have gained new confidence. This newly increased confidence is what secured the 4-1 lead against Newcastle in the 51st minute of the boxing day game. Now, battling against a team that has failed to beat them in 5 premier league games, the reds will be looking to end the year with a win against Burnley on their list of accomplishments for the 2019 playoffs.
On the other side of the playing field, Burnely will be going hard with Wood and Barnes at the front lines in a 4: 4: 2 formations. While this seems like the best strategy, it may not be enough to stop Martial, greenwood, and Rashford from penetrating Burnley’s defense line.
