The race for the top four and the battle to survive the drop is getting even more intense as the days go on. Manchester United would never have believed that they would be here. But here they are, battling to win. A loss from either team would affect their campaign negatively. When they meet Fulham away from home, they would be hoping that Fulham has given up on the league.
Manchester United
Manchester United are simply in amazing form. Since the exit of Mourinho, they have won matches after matches. This has lured them right back into contention. They are currently 5th in the league. They are just two points below Chelsea. A win here could take them into the top four. A loss today could see them drop to 6th as Arsenal is just a point below them. It is delicately poised. There cannot be a slip up in events. They can be no doubt that Ole would make sure that his boys are ready for that match. Fulham though is in a different situation altogether.
Fulham
The battle of the relegation zone often offers several lifelines and twists. Fulham would be hoping that one is in store for them as they head into this game. They are deep in the relegation zone. They are currently 19th in the league. For them to escape the drop, they would need to close the seven points gap that has been opened between themselves and Burnley. With the matches slowly ebbing away, it’s looking more unlikely that Fulham would be able to pull off a surprise. They have just 17 points from the 25 matches that have been played. These are times of desperation for Fulham. A win with Manchester United, however, could just be the start of a transformation.
Form
The form of both teams is as different as light and darkness. Fulham has had a torrid time in the league so far. They have won just once in their last six games. This win came in their match against Brighton. The other matches have all ended in losses. Before the win against Brighton, they had been on a four-match losing streak. However Manchester United are in a better place right now.
Manchester United have not lost in six matches. They have won five of those matches and drawn one. Before their draw against Burnley, they were on a five-match winning streak. Things are looking rosy for them at the moment. However, if and when the run ends, they would have to pick themselves up quickly to avoid being left behind by their rivals.
The race to the end of the league would no doubt be very entertaining. You can have no doubts that both teams would throw everything that they have in a bid to win this game. However, Manchester United are the favorites in this game and I expect it to show throughout the game.
