With Arsenal playing Fulham, and Liverpool playing Leeds, it sure looks like they're pairing big teams against small ones. On Monday, we'll see Chelsea playing another small group. Well, let's see if this gets the Premier League off to a great start.
It's almost undeniable that this game is going to be an easy win for Liverpool. Although Liverpool seems to have dropped in form since they realized that they were in the vantage point to win the league, Leeds won't stand a chance against the heat they'll bring against them. Well, let's not be too quick to conclude. Let's take a look at their stats.
Head to Head
Leeds doesn't stand a chance against the Liverpool side, and their head to head records clearly show that. The two teams have played in 13 meetings, and Liverpool has won a total of 9 games, while Leeds have won only 2, the remaining two games were draws.
In the last eight games, leads have not so much as won 1 - 0 against the Liverpool side. The best record they've had is a draw. In fact, at a point, Liverpool recorded a 4-game winning streak against the Leads side, and are currently on another 2. With the way things are looking, Leeds will not be able to stop the menace that the Liverpool side will wreak on them tomorrow.
Previous Games Records
Liverpool has been terrific this season. They didn't only show that they have the agility to win games. They also showed that their goal-scoring prowess isn't one that anybody wants to mess with. In their previous eight games, they won 4, drew 3, and lost one. The records in their last eight games can be blamed on complacency since they only started losing some fun after they were sure they'd win the league.
Leeds, on the other hand, has been utterly fabulous in the last eight games. Although they only played in the Championship against teams in the same form level, they proved themselves worthy enough to compete in the Premier League. In their last eight games, they won a total of 7 games and drew just one. Let's hope that they can bring all that energy into playing against a more challenging Liverpool side.
Winning Margins
Leeds have done well in terms of winning margins, and speculators may assume that it is because the Championship isn't as competitive as the Premier League. It doesn't take away that they could win most of their games with about three goals apart.
On the other hand, Liverpool also won some of their games with about 2-goal margins, sometimes even more. As we can see, the two teams have an excellent goal-scoring ability. Let's hope that they'll be able to score some goals in this match tomorrow.
Predictions/Verdict
We'll place the odds at 1.5 for Liverpool to win, 10.5 for Leeds to win, and 6.8 for a draw.
May the best team win.
