There is absolutely no doubt that when Arsenal and Manchester City clash in the premier league, it is usually the match of the week. However, with the match on the horizon, the stakes are even raised higher as a loss for any of the teams would lead to a slip up in their individual quests. There is so much to play for and you would feel the tension in the air when Manchester City welcomes Arsenal to the Etihad.

Manchester City

Manchester City entered this season as defending champions and favorites to lift the title again. However, what they did expect was a resurgent Liverpool and a Tottenham that just would not go down. In general, no one expected the premier league to be this competitive. However, once again, the premier league pulled off a surprise. Manchester City is currently in 3rd position. They are five points off Liverpool and one point behind Tottenham who has played a game more. They have 56 points from 24 matches. There are only 14 matches left. Time is ebbing away slowly and Manchester City would need to be perfect for the rest of the season. A slip up here would see Manchester city title defense all but over.

Arsenal

Since the hiring of Spanish coach, Unai Emery, Arsenal have played considerably better despite their defensive vulnerabilities. For that reason, Arsenal is currently embroiled in a struggle for the top four even as the season draws to a finish. Arsenal is in 5th place having been displaced from 4th by Chelsea after their heavy thrashing of Huddersfield. The top four would secure champions league football from the English club next season. They would be hoping to make it back into that competition after a two years absence. They would have to find a way to beat Manchester City in their own backyard if they want to keep pace with Chelsea and Manchester United.

Form

The form of both teams is impressive. However, Manchester City's form holds the edge. They have won five of their last six games in all competitions. Their only loss came in the last match when they lost at home to Newcastle. They would be hoping to put their losses behind them and focus on what would be a hard-fought match at the Etihad Stadium. Arsenal, on the other hand, has won four of their last six games in all competitions. The last loss in the league was against West Ham. They would aware that to win, they would need to play a perfect game against Manchester City. Winning would really bolster their chances of finishing in the top four.

Manchester would be hoping to take advantage of the injury crisis which is currently rocking the Arsenal's backline. If they can do that, they would have a better chance of winning the game. Manchester City is clear favorites walking into this game. However, with the way the game is poised, there is so much to play for and anything can happen.
