The EPL started last time out and so far, it’s been a great one week. As we are still early in the season, making any form of prediction as to where the titles would most likely end up this season would be an activity in futility. However, the frontrunners can easily be thought of and even seen by their displays in the first match. With just one team out of the six big teams in England losing their first game, this is one of those seasons where the teams look like they have come out ready to make an impact. Liverpool would have a chance to continue their stride in the premier league so far when they come face to face with Southampton on Saturday.

Liverpool

Liverpool is the champion. Yes, they just won yet another trophy in Europe. That is the UEFA Super Cup. However, that trophy did not come easily. They had to work hard for it as Chelsea out then through the ropes for a long period in a match which was eventually settled through the luxury of the penalty shootout. By Saturday, they would be back to action in the league as they travel to the St Mary Stadium to take on the Saints at home. It is one match which would be interesting to see considering the number of players that has moved from Southampton to Liverpool in recent times. Chief among them would be Van Dirk who is now considered to be the best defender in the world.

Southampton

For Southampton, it would be a matter of not allowing another loss in the cards. The season did not start well for them. They lost heavily to Burnley in their first game of the season with a 3-0 loss sure to stay in their systems for a while. Now they get to play at home and also welcome hot Liverpool to their stadium and hope that they have enough fire weapon to at least draw or put them under considerable pressure. A loss here could mean a further drop down the table and could see them find their footing in the relegation zone so early on. That is surely not what any team would like to experience at the moment.

Form

With Saints form not also in a good place and no star player standing out right now, they could be in for a long day on Saturday. They would surely be conscious that Liverpool is always full of confidence after their battering of Norwich and narrow win over Chelsea. It would take a lot of work for them to bring them down at the moment.

Klopp would be looking for his players to just keep up the place and create some momentum. This momentum could just be key to ensuring that they maintain their outstanding record in the league this season. With the match getting closer, the saints would have to deal with the fact that they are firmly the underdog in this encounter.
