The 2019/2020 premier league season is about to experience another spectacular 90 minutes’ game between the Premier League title aspirant Manchester City and Wolves. Even though the league title has proved evasive for Pep Guardiola’s men, as they are having a difficult time keeping their preferred position on the league table, that doesn’t stop them from desiring the peak position on the table. Besides securing two wins back to back in the previous weeks – first against Arsenal, then against the second-placed team on the table, Leicester – they have renewed their confidence in the race for the 2019/2020 premier league title.

Now with their confidence renewed, they face the Wolves who will, no doubt, use the slightest opportunity to secure a comfortable win against Man City. But while Manchester City has been setback many times in its climb to the apex position of the Premier league table, the Wolves has not had it easy as well. Some might even say the Boxing day playoff at the Molineux, is a brewing nightmare for Wolves, as they have only 45 hours to prepare for the head to head against the current leaders of the table, Liverpool FC. With barely 45 hours separating them from facing another big name on the table, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side will have to bring more than their A-game to the playing field.

What the Scoreboards say

Man City has had its staggering hopes rekindled after securing a win against Arsenal and Leicester the previous weeks. Even though they are only 48 hours away from their next premier league game against Sheffield United, they’ll do everything in their power to keep their faint hopes alive. Just like their current rivals, Wolves, Man City will also have to juggle their players to ensure maximum results in this game and the one set for the 29th of December. Now, with only one point stopping them from occupying the second position on the table, a win against wolves is a must for City.

Wolves, on the other hand, will be looking to overthrow Sheffield United from its current position on the table, while ensuring the head to head against Man city doesn’t set them back 3 points. Besides, both these teams won their last premier league matches, and as such, they both have equal opportunity to boost their standing with a win in this game.

What to expect from the game?

With only two days (or less) separating both teams from their next match, the managers will have to strategize a formation that exploits the weakness of their opponents without wearing out their players. We expect Pep Guardiola to use some of his most ferocious players to gain the upper hand in the first half of the game. If this holds, City’s half of the playing field will feature the likes of De Bruyne, Otamendi, and Sterling. For a proper defense against Man city’s horde, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side will feature the likes of Castro, Dendoncker, and Patricio.

While we acknowledge both teams’ preparedness for this game, Man city seems like the hungrier team for a win. However, if they think Wolves will be a walkover, they’ll have to think again.
