It's another beautiful season at the LA LIGA football competitions, and as the year draws to a close, most teams are looking to secure one last win for their fans at home. The same goes for these two teams as they prepare for a head to head against each other on Sunday, 22nd of December, 2019. This comes after A Bilbao's recent campaign at the Copa del Rey, where they secured a 3-0 victory against their aggressive and relentless Tercera division rivals, intercity. Whereas this has given them the much-needed boost to wage war against the fiercest teams on the planet, it may not be enough against the Los Blancos giants.

Madrid, on the other hand, has enjoyed a successful campaign this season, which is needless to say the contribution of Zinedine Zidane, the head coach of the Los Blancos side. As of now, Madrid sits at the topmost part of the La Liga table of the 2019/2020 playoff season, where they are level with their Spanish rivals, Barcelona. Even though their goalless draw at Camp Nou the previous week denied them a chance to get ahead of Barcelona on the table, they are still as ferocious as ever. If there's any chance of beating Real Madrid in the playoffs come Sunday evening, it will require A Bilbao bringing its A-game to the playing field.

A closer look at the scoreboards

Most teams on the la Liga table have had a good run this season, especially the Las Blancos giants, who have had an unbeaten run at the Bernabeu across all platforms this season. Athletic Bilbao, on the other hand, has not had much luck compared to their current rivals, with only 27 points to show for their efforts in the La Liga playoffs. Unlike their Real Madrid counterparts who have ended their last six matches with their names pinned on the right side of the scoreboards, Bilbao has not been so lucky this season. Notwithstanding their current position on the La Liga table, where they sit 3 points below the top four contenders on the table, they still have a fair chance of winning the game come Sunday.

Whereas Madrid seems to be the stronger of the two teams, it doesn't guarantee that the playoffs on Sunday will end in a win for Las Blancos. Surprisingly, the last four games between Real Madrid and A Bilbao have ended in a draw. Nevertheless, in April 2019 Madrid secured a 3-0 victory against Bilbao at the Bernabeu.

Now without Marcelo, Eden hazard, Lucas Vazquez, and Marco Asensio on the Los Blancos side of the playing field, they go into battle with A Bilbao, who has only conceded twelve times throughout the 2019/2020 la Liga playoffs. Bilbao, on the other hand, has not been victorious at the Bernabeu since the second of month of 2005. In light of this reality, it isn't straightforward to imagine a chance of success for Bilbao in the Sunday fixture against Real Madrid. Even with their newly gained confidence, following their 3-0 victory at Copa del Rey last week, they still have a big task ahead of them.
