While the premier league and all other leagues take the final breather before the end of the season, the matches are not yet done. We are going to see some beautiful matches played as international teams try to ready themselves for the various competitions that would be played after the season. While this is true, others would simply be playing for pride as most matches would also be friendly. The European cup qualifiers are also ongoing and European teams would want to do well in order to qualify for the main tournament. For the world champions, the first test which they would have to face or pass would be Moldova.
Moldova
Although relatively unknown in the grander scheme of things in the world cup, Moldova is a team in progress. They have certainly proved that they are no pushovers with the way they have played in recent times and would be anxious to get some sort of result when they meet France. The fact that the match would be played at Stadionul Zimbru in Moldova would only add to their need to play well for their fans. However, they would be aware that they could be in for a thrashing if France is able to get into their stride from kick-off. They would want to keep the backdoor closed for as long as possible.
France
France is the world champions and deservedly. After their exploits in the world cup, most fans would be wondering if they would be affected by the curse of the world which has affected Spain and Germany in recent times. While that remains to be seen, so far, they are pulling their weight in all matches that they have played. Not in peak condition, but just enough to make sure that they have the firepower to take out Moldova whenever they want. They would, however, be careful in order not to become complacent as complacency could mean a defeat here.
Form
When it comes to the form of both teams, they are in a surprisingly similar patch of form. Moldova has managed to win just two of their last six games. The other matches have ended in three draws and a single loss. Their last loss came in their very last match when they lost to Kazakhstan 1-0. Before then, they were on a five-match unbeaten streak which would surely have boosted their confidence. They would surely want to get back to winning ways when this match kicks-off.
France, on the other hand, has managed to win three games out of the last six matches. The other remaining matches ended in two draws and a single loss. That loss came in the match against the Netherlands where they were thumped surprisingly 2-0. However, a win against Uruguay would have gone some way in boosting their confidence. They would be desperate to claim a victory here to enhance their chances of qualifying.
Moldova would certainly be a tricky match for France and France would be a great obstacle for Moldova. May the best team come out victorious?
