Following Panama's debut performance at the World Cup in Russia, their coach Hernan Dario Gomez decided to resign. However, the Colombian will not have to look for a job as he will take over as a Ecuador coach.

In Russia, Panama lost all three matches in Group H against England, Belgium and Tunis with an aggregate 2-11 score.

However, this result was hardly seen as a disaster as Panama had never featured at World Cup before, and they qualified for the tournament at the expense of the USA.

Gomez, who coached Panama since 2014, had been in charge of Ecuador years before and led them to the 2002 World Cup finals.
