United Keep the run going.

I said in my last post how I thought this was the game that would give us the clean sheet we have been craving and I was right. It wasn’t the same free flowing football we had seen in the last 3 games against Cardiff, Huddersfield and Bournemouth but a victory never the less.

What this game did show us though is that Phil Jones really isn’t good enough to be a United player and I’m sure if we were playing a team in the top 6 we would have conceded long before Lukaku was introduced. Gary Neville summed it up when he said, “I think Atsu has had 550 shots” (he only had 5) but I hope you get my point. Can you imagine if it was Kane, Salah, Hazard or Aguero that had these chances? There would have been no chance that they would have missed all five. This game has also proved that Valencia is no longer the great right back he once was. I don’t think he went passed his man once to whip a cross in. He wasn’t helped by Mata though who was played out right but offered no width, but I would still have expected more from him.

On the plus side though, we now have a manager who can see things aren’t going his way and instead of just accepting that and playing for the draw he bought on two stickers and both had a big impact on the final score. Lukaku with his first touch scoring a real poacher’s goal and Sanchez having the composure to see Rashford and pick him out when surrounded by 4 Newcastle defenders.

I think going forward we need to play with Dalot or Young at right back with Jessi Lingard playing as our right sided attacker. This will then give width on the right from our overlapping right backs and with Lingard’s off the ball movement we seem to be much more free flowing in attack.

This wasn’t the best performance of Solskjaer reign but I think this game will give us the most confidence moving forward. The clean sheet is massive and is our first since November, Rashford seems to be getting better and better with every performance under the new manager, Pogba was a little quite in the game but still managed to show that he is the man that any future United team should be built around. Lukaku is back in the goals and will be pushing for a start which I’m sure will come when we play Reading on Saturday lunchtime. Sanchez Is fit, and let’s face it, he can’t possibly be any worse then he has been since he moved a to a year ago, Lindelof looks like the composed ball playing defender we all thought we had signed 2 years ago.

I’m now excited every match day and can’t wait for the next game. 3 weeks ago I dreaded watching United and was terrified about the Spurs game on the 13th of January, but now bring them on. Let's see how much we have improved and where we stand compared to 1 of the of the best teams in the league.

United till I Die!
