A football pitch with green grass and training facilities is luxury in most parts of Africa especially Nigeria. Soccer is called 'football' in most countries and it is the most popular sport in our community.

Almost every male plays it just for leisure.

In the 19th century, many parents did not support the idea of playing football as a profession. They often scold their kids whenever they are caught playing football.

I was scold a few times alongside my brothers and I can remember the street security men shouting loud in code words whenever they sighted my dad's or mum's car.

They say words like; "Okocha, mama dey come o" As funny as the code sentence was, we knew that was trouble coming as we got scolded for playing football or table tennis.

This is because many consider white collar jobs to be more prestigious. My parents didn't choose any profession for their kids but sports was out of it for us.

Kids of Santino FC training hard

In recent times, African parents have seen the value of sports and now encourage their kids to participate in sporting activities.

For most of them, football is the first thing that comes to their minds hence, they enroll their kids in football clubs which help them get prepared for the future if they make it to local clubs or standard academies.

Soccer stars like JayJay Okocha, Sunday Olise, Taiye Taiwo, Mikel Obi, and Ahmed Musa, are the lucky ones whose families understood the meaning of choice of profession. They allowed their kids choose their occupation and train locally.

At the field where I met with the young team of trainers at Alimosho Local Government Are in Lagos, Coach Tunde and assistant Coach Ben explained that 90% of the kids were brought for training by their parents who were either bank employees or teachers.

There was even a girl who trains as hard as the boys do. Check her out on the video (1:18).

There is Coach Tunde behind me and assistant coach Ben with the hoodie.

The coach and the officials were glad to have me introduce Scorum to them and they shared the difficulty they had in using the internet with me. Here, the average income is $50 per month so internet fees was a bit too much to high for them.

I promised to find a solution to that as having them showcase their trainings and sport views was going to add value to the platform.

In the coming weeks, I will help them get 2 months internet subscription to be able to access Scorum, register and start using.

Here is a clip of their rigorous training session

More Pictures From My Visit

That's me and the coach.

The coach is so excited about Scorum that he thinks Scorum should be promoted by hosting tournaments here in Lagos State.

I am currently working with him to get Scorum branded jerseys for the Football Club.

If all Scorum community partners can try as hard to bring on a sports team once in a month, soon, scorum will be the talk of the town in every community.

Don't be surprised when you see some of the boys and the girl playing internationally as spectators and academies come to watch them occasionally.

Often, they participate in competitions that are organised at the State levels. Great players are picked and trained by top local clubs who have international links.

Soon, I hope I am able to fully fund my ideas and take Scorum to every household.
