Humans are imperfect and that is fine. Football fans are the worst. We are always seeking something new, always criticizing clubs, owners, board for being too rich for good kind, for spending too much money and for making football, a rich clubs game.

Now we are in the situation where Tottenham Spurs are not buying a single player and manager Mauricio Pochettino has been torn all over Internet for making such a “bad call”. What are we missing? Aren’t we supposed to applaud when a club decides not to go on a shopping spree and spend hundreds of millions of euros or dollars? Where is that football old school mode now, when Tottenham is not spending a single dime on a transfer?

Of course, we are hypocrites. We are criticizing transfers which can reach hundreds of millions, but yet we’ll all buy shirts and merchandise when it came to our club shop. We will state that football players are making too much money that they are moving from club to club only for financial benefits and not football reason but yet when someone doesn’t follow the same path, he is criticized.

I’m not defending Pochettino or Tottenham per se, but I’m trying to emphasize the importance of this Transfer window. Spurs manager said that he is happy with his team, that he has what he thinks is the best for the team and will not buy for the sake of the purchase. If a right guy appears or is available for the right sum, Spurs will go for it. Otherwise, there is no need, there is no rush because the team is doing just fine.

Let’s look at it. What would you change? In the goalkeeper position, Spurs have Hugo Lloris, French goalkeeper, current World champion and brilliant goalkeeper. In the defence Pocchetino can rely on Alderweireld, Sanchez, Vertonghen, Rose, Aurier, Trippier, Dier etc. Haven’t we heard stories and stories about the qualities of Trippier, Alderweireld or Vertonghen. Midfield is packed with Eriksen, Alli, Dembele, Sissoko, Wanyama. Not the worst midfield in the world, probably in the top 5 in the PL. And the attack is magnificent. Just with Kane and Son, Spurs attack would be phenomenal.

Spurs are a good team, not still great, but pretty good. Manager knows that for strengthening the team, he’ll need at least 100 – 150 million euros. Players these days do not come cheap. He already has starting 11 and some great substitutes. Why would he go for transfers? He is satisfied with what he has and that should be respected. Whether he succeeds or fails, Pochettino has tried to succeed in a season without spending a lot of money. That is something that is not very often in European football.
