Normally in the United States when you hear "football" you think of American Football. But there's also another sport associated with the name of football, association football, or for American's: soccer.

Fun fact: When I was in elementary school I played soccer. We actually gained a puppy from it too :)

Differences Between "The Footballs"

  • Association football has two 45 minute halves. American football has four 15 minute quarters with roughly 40 seconds of time in between.
  • Association football is played with a spherical ball with a goal on each end of a rectangular field. American football has an oval shaped ball with a touchdown zone and a field goal post on each end of a rectangular field.
  • Association football has a field that is 100-130 yards by 50-100 yards. An American football field is 120 yards by 53.33 yards.
  • The point of association football is to gain more goals than the opposing team. The point of American football is to gain a better score than the opposing team with touchdowns and field goals.
  • In association football you cannot touch the ball with your arms and hands, but can use anything else on your body. In American football you can use your arms, hands, and anything else on your body.
  • In association football any form of physical contact results in a foul. In American football tackling is an offensive move that is allowed to stop the opposing team from gaining points.

Similarities Between "The Footballs"

  • Both have 11 players on the field while playing.
  • Both usually have play-makers such as the quarterback and the central middle fielder.
  • Association football players kick with the lace of the shoes, and so do kickers and punters in American football.
I don't have a favorite because I don't normally follow these sports, but I would love to hear your opinion of which one to follow American or Association football?

Also over the last few days I have been looking for cheap and effective ways of watching either. I have subscribed to ESPN+ to watch the UEFA Nations League for $5 a month. Sadly that doesn't cover professional or college American football. I have looked all over, and most cost around $40 a month. If you have any suggestions please comment below as I would love a way to watch the games without breaking the bank.

I hope you enjoyed this post :)
