When US president Donald Trump arrived in Brussels on Tuesday for the NATO summit, he could expect to be met by Belgian national leaders at the airport.

However, it did not happened as top figures of the country preferred to watch the historic World Cup semi-final, where Belgium faced France.

King Philippe with his wife Queen Mathilde actually traveled to St.Petersburg to watch the game live, and so did the Foreign Minister Didier Reynders.

The Prime Minister Charles Michel stayed in his homeland, but watched the football in a fan zone in the city of Braine-le-Comte.

As a result, Trump was met by a Belgian foreign ministry official. But as we know, even the support of the royal family and political leaders did not help Belgium to reach their first World Cup final ever.
