Olivier Giroud has been a regular starter for France during this World Cup, but still has not scored a goal. It may look like the 31-year-old does not deserve a place in the starting line-up, or that he feels some extra pressure before the final match with Croatia.

However, Giroud is quite happy with his performance: "I don’t feel frustrated. As long as the team wins, I’m happy. I try to open gaps, to play in the build-up. My game is also to play for my team mates, it’s my altruistic side,” he said.

“I’ve given assists for three goals here, but for sure I’d like to score. But if we win without me scoring, I’ll be happy with that too".

With 31 goals in 80 matches, Giroud is the fourth-best scorer in France's history, yet somehow he is unable to find the net in Russia.

When France won the World Cup in 1998, they had a somewhat similar story with Stephane Guivarc'h, who was a regular starter in the knockout round matches but failed to score any goals.

But obviously Giroud would prefer to take an example from another member of that generation - the great Zinedine Zidane. In 1998, Zizou also had not scored before the final, but ultimately his two goals against Brazil propelled Les Bleus to their first World Cup.
