Mexico’s opening victory against the defending world champions Germany was quite impressive - many said that it was their best World Cup match in many years.

As it turned out, the team had been struck with the flu before the match. That was stated by the ESPN journalist Jorge Ramos, who got the information from the head coach Juan Carlos Osorio.

According to him, some players were sidelined because of an illness, but some other took part in the match nevertheless and contributed to the team’s success. However, the flu started to take its toll in the second half, so Osorio was forced to make all three substitutes by the 73th minute.

Given the news, the Mexican heroics against Germany are even more respectful. But of course I wish all the sick footballers to get better as soon as possible. With the healthy squad, Mexico should play even better!
