Frank Fabra was supposed to go to the World Cup as the first-choice left back of the Colombian national team. But shortly before his flight to Russia, he tore the front cruciate ligaments of his left knee, and his dream collapsed.

After that, he wrote a very strong and emotional post on Instagram:

"The dream of a child from the small town of Neca, Colombia, the one who was running barefoot through the streets. The child who was fascinated by Juan Cuadrado’s and James Rodriguez’s game, by David Ospina's saves, by the real midfield machines Abel Aguilar and Carlos Sanchez, by fast moves by Zuniga, Santiago Arias and Pablo Armero at the last World Cup. A child who dreamed of becoming part of this tournament.

I fought and worked hard, tried to get better and improved day after day until I found myself among them. Now my heart is broken into fifty million pieces. I was already standing at the door that separated me from my dream. One step away from it. My soul hurts!

But I have faith in myself, strong faith is God, which makes me happy and proud of myself. The Lord who gave me the strength to come here from that very town. I will become stronger, because I have an example of Falcao, who has coped with all the problems. Radamel knew how to get out of this situation, and he could do it.

I thank my family who always support me, my girlfriend, friends, all the staff of the team. The whole team that will show themselves in all their glory at the 2018 World Cup, because they deserve it. They live this tournament. I want to say about a thousand things, but they can’t be described by words.

Thank you for the words of support and bless you all.

The dream is still with me and the Lord is my way, and my guide."
