In the last season of the Spanish Premier League the fight between the teams from the middle of the table was exciting. Sixth Sevilla and tenth Real Betis were only 9 points apart after the last round. Surely the biggest winner in this group may be Espanyol, which after 14 years returns to the European cups.

Sixth place - Sevilla

Again we will see players from Andalusia in the Europa League. After a breakdown at the beginning of the season, when the charges of Joaquin Caparrosa suffered defeats in 3rd and 4th round, they later stabilized their form. They didn't go beyond the top seven in the last series of games. What should worry Seville fans most about is the number of goals lost by their favorites. There was no need to get rid of David Soria's team, who in the team from Andalusia did not get a chance to play, and after moving to Getafe he dials great numbers. Before the upcoming season, all the people associated with the club are hoping for a much better performance in Europe than in the previous campaign. Leaving the Europa League group is definitely not enough.

Seventh place - Espanyol

As I mentioned in the introduction, in my opinion there are the biggest winners among all the teams in the middle of the table. They showed that it's worth fighting to the end. After a defeat in the 29th round with Barcelona, they found themselves in a distant 14th place. However, the finish of the season was theirs. They didn't lose any of the last nine games, beating Madrid 3:0 on the way. An admirable attitude and a deserved promotion from European cups. Coach Espanyol, like Sevilla's coach, will have to work on the defense during the summer break. 50 lost goals is a score that makes you think. Fortunately, the offensive looks much better, mainly due to Borja Iglesias, who scored 17 goals in the league.

Eighth place - Athletic Bilbao

No one in San Mamés thinks that the eighth place is a good result. After Ernesto Valverde left the club, they forgot about the European cups. In December last year Gaizka Garitano started working with his first team and gave hope that next season Athletic will fight for a place in the lead. The Spanish trainer has been working with the team since the 15th round. He could not hit any worse, because his predecessor led the team to the very bottom, that is to the inheritance zone. Fortunately, after the coach change, Muniain and the company finally started to score points and before the last round they were even in seventh place. Now Garitano can use the whole preparation period and start the season with new hopes.

Ninth place - Real Sociedad

The players from Estadio Anoeta were unable to stabilize their form throughout the campaign. In the 13th round they came in eighth, and after the next four rounds of games they came in fifteenth. The dismissal of Asiera Garitano in the middle of the season and the employment of a new trainer improved the situation of the team from San Sebastián a little. Imanol Alguacil doesn't have to worry about the offensive, because the duo Mikel Oyarzabal and Willian Jose prove that they are great strikers. In the last campaign they scored a total of 24 goals. Definitely more attention needs to be paid to defense. I think it will be worth to say goodbye to a few defenders who didn't play a big role this season, like Kevin Rodrigues or Robin Le Normand. History shows that Real Sociedad is able to fight for European cups (16/17 6th place) and that's what all fans are waiting for the start of the new season.

Tenth place - Real Betis

All Betis fans feel disappointed after the last campaign. After season 17/18, when Quique Setién's charges won the sixth place, everyone hoped that the next campaign would be equally successful. Indeed, everything looked great, but only in the Europa League (exit from the group) and in the Copa del Rey (promotion to the semi-final). Apparently the Betis players forgot about the league. Coach rotated his lineup so incompetently that his team ended the league rivalry on the 10th position. Quique Setién will no longer lead the Seville team in the new season. The new trainer will certainly have a very specific goal - to be promoted to European cups.
