As I promised on my yesterday’s post, to cover up the more local sports news, I'm posting the match reviews of ongoing International Khaptad Gold Cup matches. Yesterday, I published a match review on quarter-final stage match between Sankata club and Cameroonian Dauphins club. In an international tournament, all foreign clubs were eliminated from the competition and only 4 Nepalese clubs remained in the last 4 of the tournament.

In the first semi-final of International Khaptad Gold Cup at Dhangadi stadium, Three Star club beat Mechi Netralaya Kakarvitta football club by 2 second-half goals and book their place in the final of the competition. Three Star will play against the winner of Nepal Police club and Sankata club in the final. Three Star’s midfielder Rupesh KC and Sunil ball scored a goal apiece to help Three Stars reached final of the competition. The winner of the competition will receive a 21,000 USD while a runner-up team will receive a 10,000 USD. Three Star desperately want to win this cup after finishing 3rd in this year’s Martyr’s Memorial A-Division league football.

In a match against the non-league team, Three Star played attacking football from the very first minute of the match. They made very good attempts on first 20 minute, their continuous attempts on the post were saved one after another by Kakarvitta goalkeeper Dip Karki. In the 22nd minute, Three Star was denied by a Kakarvitta’s crossbar. Foda Fofana’s powerful shot from outside of the d-box line hit on the crossbar and went out. In a one-sided first half and the first half ended a goalless.

In continuing the first-half's attacking game, Three Star again played attacking football from the very first minute of second half. They continuously pressed hard to score the leading goal in the match. In the 53rd minute, Rupesh KC’s powerful volley from the inside of the box went straight to the Kakarvitta keeper Dip Karki’s hand. In the 69th minute, Three Star broke the deadlock with the Rupesh KC’s goal. Ranjan KC’s dangerous ball inside the box was headed by Buddha Chemjong to Rupesh’s path and he easily scored from nearly 6 yards to hand a goal lead to Three Star. In the 80th minute, Three Star stretched their lead into two goals, Sunil ball scored absolutely stunning curling free-kick from nearly 25 yards to seal the victory for Three Star. Three Star’s winger Sunil Ball was awarded man of the match for his huge contribution in both goals of the match.

After the match, Three Star’s newly appointed coach Ujjwal Manadhar said: “we all want to forget the painful memory of this year’s A-Division league and we want to give something for their fan by winning this competition.” He also praised Kakarvitta’s team spirit for giving the tough competition and stopping them till 68th minute of the match.
The second semi-final between Sankta club and Nepal Police club will be played later today. So hopefully I will post the review of that match too.
