Manchester United fought back from 2-0 down but not sufficient to get all 3 points from St. Mary's Stadium against relegation strugglers Southampton. The first half was an exciting and eventful one with 4 goals. United went 2 goals down early in the first half but fought back strongly to bring it to 2-2 by the end of the first half. But both teams lacked the momentum in the second half with the game ending without any goals in the second half.

Managing United in his third year, Jose still seems not to understand his team and it was vivid in his team selection. His team selection was criticized before the match as he started Matic, McTominay, and Jones as the 3 center backs. Both Matic and McTominay were at fault when United conceded 2 early goals. Also, he benched Anthony Martial, the most inform player in United squad along with Mata and started Lukaku and Rashford upfront.

Jose idea of keeping Matic in the center back was punished early in the match. Matic was not aware of Stuart Armstrong who brought Southampton in the lead in the 13th minute of the match. In the 20th minute, McTominay conceded the free kick in a dangerous area which Cedric scored to double the lead. Once again, United found themselves 2-0 behind within 20th minute which is not any strange given the form of United this season.

And once again, the stage was all set for another comeback win after the worse first 20 minutes of the match. The first of it came in the 33rd minute when Rashford took a ball forward and found Lukaku. Lukaku managed to score the most important goal and his first goal after September. Just 6 minutes after this goal, Rashford again found Ander Herrera who skillfully scored to bring the game to an exciting 2-2.

When United came back in the ground for the second half, some more goals were expected against weak Southampton. But today was no different to last week match against Palace. United didn't show any intent to get the winner, and in many occasions, Southampton was the team trying their best to find the winner.

Thus, another draw for United which keeps them 7th in the table with 22 points, 5 points below 5th place Arsenal. For Southampton, this draw wasn't enough to be out of relegation as they still are in 18th position with 9 points, just a point away from the safe zone. The quest of top 4 is getting harder for United now, and they have another tough fixture ahead. Next, United will welcome Arsenal at Old Trafford.
