After an incredible comeback win in the second league of the Champions League, last 16 ties against PSG, Manchester United is through to the quarterfinals. It was a historic and dramatic night in France, thanks to VAR. With almost everyone injured and a deficit of 2-0 at home, United fans had almost given up. But Solskjaer once again in a spectacular fashion proved why he is the most deserving candidate for the hot seat at Old Trafford as they defeated PSG by 3-1 and progress to the quarterfinals on away goals.

Solskjaer only had 1 player left in the form of Rashford among his top 6 frontmen after Pogba missed this game because of suspension after a red card in the reverse fixture. Lukaku and Rashford started up front for United. Fred, McTominay and Andreas Pereira started in the mid. In today's match, Eric Bailey was another player in the injury list, he was replaced by Dalot in the 36th minute. PSG was also without Neymar and Cavani was left out in the bench. Kylian Mbappe led the attack with Di Maria, Draxler and Dani Alves behind him.

As soon as the match started, United small hopes of getting into the last eight were boosted in just 111 seconds after Romelo Lukaku scored for United. He intercepted the backpass from Thilo Kehrer and rounded Buffon to put it home. But after this goal, PSG completely dominated the game with plenty of opportunities. It didn't take long for them to restore the 2 goal leads. Juan Bernat scored this time after Eric Bailey failed to track him from the cross of Kylian Mbappe. This goal didn't settle PSG as they kept attacking running riot against United's defense. It looked like another defeat was coming to United's way but there was a big turn around suddenly. Rashford attempted a low shot from outside the box but Buffon failed to collect it. The bounced straight into the way of Lukaku who fired it home. United preserved the lead to go into the break, still trailing 3-2 overall.

As the second half started, United still needed a goal to progress. It was a slow start for both teams and somehow got heated up when the goal from di Maria was disallowed in around an hour mark. PSG dominated the second half too and looked like scoring. The tie was almost over when Mbappe was sent through but only to be slipped before taking the shot and de Gea managed to push that away. But it went to Bernat whose shot hit the post and it was a lucky escape for United.

Solskjaer had no choice than bring two academic youngsters as a substitute. Tahiti Chong and Mason Greenwood made their debut in the Champions League. Mason Greenwood also became the youngest player for United to be featured in the Champions League. But it was Dalot who changed the course of the game. In the 90th minute, Dalot drove the ball and it took a deflection off Kimpembe. The referee went for the VAR assistance and after a few minutes of confusion, he pointed the spot for the penalty. Rashford stepped up to take it and smashed it home beyond Buffon to win the tie for United.

It was a lucky but a historic escape for United at Paris. United reach the quarter-final for the first time since 2014. Although the penalty by VAR looked controversial, it is a win for United who had been the luckier team throughout the game. Also, United became the first team in CL to overcome a 2-0 home deficit. The draw for quarterfinals will take place on 15 March. Also, PSG once again collapsed in last 16 of the Champions League. And finally, it was sorry to see Buffon's dream to win CL once again remain as a dream after his poor display conceding 3 goals from 4 shots.
