The three lions latest victory showed intent and also passion to win the Euro 2020 with their big scoreline against Ukraine yesterday. Before kick-off, almost everyone expected England to win but not with a wide margin as they did as the match came to an end. The match saw England score goals in which three came within the space of 1o minutes in the second half.
Ukraine acknowledged that they needed to be in their best form in order to get a chance against England but they came short. They did not have their best game and their weakness from set-pieces was exploited on more than one occasion in the match. They defended poorly in set-piece situations and England capitalised on that.
Going into the match, they have been talks about how Southgate has always taken a careful approach to every match and that has kind of affected their potency in the attacking department. Doubters were of course to feel this way as England has a lot of attacking talents in their ranks but their Southgate has always fielded more defensive-minded players more. The pairing of Rice and Philips cements that they were right.
That coupled with the fact that exciting attacking talents such as Sancho, Grealish, Rashford and Jude continue to be left on the bench. Southgate made a surprise inclusion in the matchup against Ukraine as he fielded Sancho from start to finish and his display will probably force the coach to start him in the next match as he hardly put in a wrong foot on the pitch for the 90 minutes duration.
On this occasion, Southgate tactics seem to work as he switched back to a back four and included the new Manchester United signing Sancho in his first team for the first time since the competition started. England scored in the first five minutes as sterling and Kane combine for the first time in the Euro 2020 competition.
Kane added another in the second half to take his tally in the competition to 3 goals despite the fact that he failed to score in any of the group stage matches. Henderson scores the last goal and that marked his first-ever goal for the three lions. the celebration was warranted and he did celebrate with a roar that showed intent.
Overall, England was clinical and potent with each attack and that led them to win the game. this is England fifth game in the tournament and they are yet to concede a goal and it showed that careful approach by the coach is working and it suits the England team. England has six goals every attempt and they scored four goals from it.
Their next game is against Denmark and their huge win against Ukraine might likely send a shiver to Denmark's spine. England will be looking for the spot in the finals and their opposition which is Denmark will be trying to avoid the same hammering that Ukraine endured in the quarter-finals.
I will e rooting for an England versus either Italy finals, what is your expectation for the teams to show in the finals? Will love to hear your views on which team you feel will be at the Euros 2020 finals in the comment section.
