Since his move to Chelsea from Arsenal in 2018, he has always been seen by most coaches as a backup striker. The causal problem for this could be traced to Chelsea always spending big in the transfer market for new strikers. All coaches would of course start their big value striker first and call on the services of the cheaper one or old ones when the need arises.

For so long in his glittering career, he has always been seen as not being good enough despite popping the goals when needed. For some coaches, he is a super-sub and he barely gets the nod to start games. His total club goals of 216 and 81 assists from 529 apps speaks little of its Impact because he completed 90 minutes in just 241 matches. This further showed how under-utilized he was.

Under the guidance of Wenger at Arsenal, he scored 105 goals and assisted a further 41 goals while completing 90 minutes in just 106 games. Although he played in a total of 253 matches for the gunners but was subbed off 83 times while being brought into the match 63 times. This strengthens his argument of not been trusted enough and when a transfer opportunity to Chelsea arise, he made the switch hoping he gets more game time at his new club.

Having been signed on the 31st of the January transfer window, he completed 90 minutes in just 2 games while scoring 5 goals and making 3 assist. His first full season at Chelsea was under manager sarri and he completed 90 minutes just 14 times from 45 appearances for the club. His contributions that season was telling has he 11 goals in the Europa league stirs Chelsea to victory but things didn't get better for him at the club.

Under sarri, he wasn't happy about his playing time for Chelsea and asked the coach for more playing time. Although he was productive that season but the coach preferred Hazard at the central role for Chelsea. Sarri left for Juventus after just one season at Chelsea and Frank Lampard was signed as the next manager on the Chelsea hot seat.

With Chelsea been served a two-year transfer ban, Giroud thought he would get more playing time under Lampard but Abraham a club graduate got the nod instead. Giroud was used sporadically during Lampard's first tenure as he failed to play 90 minutes in the premier league. Things have only gone worst this season as Chelsea transfer ban was lifted and a new striker was bought in by Lampard.

Even though he continues to be in France's first-team lineup as the first choice striker, he continued to be overlooked by Lampard for important matches at Chelsea. Yet he has been professional even though he doesn't agree with the coach's usage of him. Whenever he is been called upon, he gives his all and he is good to all his teammates. His relationship with the other strikers is healthy and even though they are been picked ahead of him, he has never stopped supporting them.

That resulted in him receiving praises from numerous players and pundits for his professionalism. When he scored four goals against Sevilla, Cesc Fabregas praised him using his Twitter account. He tweeted;

"@_OlivierGiroud_ what a real pro you are mate. All young players should have you as a role model. Well done once again. And people still wonder why you always end up playing!! Hard work, passion, dedication and real character to always turn things around".

The other strikers who witness the match rushed to him and hug him, not because of what he has only done tonight but because they knew he deserved to be playing more matches. With his performance against Sevilla, the Chelsea faithful can only hope to be seeing more of Giroud on the pitch rather than being on the bench. Lampard is yet to start Giroud in any premiership games this season and he has only be brought Into the game just five times this season.

Chelsea faithful hopes that the compliment that Lampard paid to him as being an old fine wine who gets better with age would see him start more matches. For now, Abraham and Werner remain the first choice center-forward at the Chelsea football club.
