It's been a very long time that we last saw the red devils occupy the first position on the English log table. The journey has been a long rough one. The transition has not been smooth since Sir Alex Ferguson retired from the United bench.
When Ferguson retired, he tabled David Moyes as his successor. Few months down the drain, Moyes happened to be an absolute disaster. So many coaches have come and gone but it has been Ole who has started making Manchester united believe again.
Ole Gunnar Solskjær who was a former player coached by the legendary coach has lighted the touch once more. Under Ferguson, he was always a player to make an impact from the bench. He was nicknamed the babyface assassins due to his babyish face and how well he strikes the ball.
He came in as interim coach after Mourinho was sacked and he won 13 games in his first 16. That got him the job as United first-team coach. Many doubted his ability because he once coached a team in the premier league and he flopped.
His record in the top flight with Cardiff was horrible as he was relegated coaching the team. In has done better in the Manchester United hot seat and it remains to be seen if he could even surpass other coaches who came after Sir Alex Ferguson by winning the premier league.
OGS side seat on top of the league table after grinding a win from their outstanding match against Burnley. The match was a toughly contested one but the Red devil won through a goal from Paul pogba. The win made them have three points above any other side in the division.
This could be the first time that Manchester United players and fans will be confident of winning the title for years now. They are also right to feel that way. This Red devil side could be said to be the most competitive side since the days of Alex Ferguson. As players have to fight for their places in the squad for every match. Gone are the days where you being a star player mean you start based on reputation. Performance determines whether you start or not.
This has seen the likes of Paul Pogba, Cavani, martial, James, shaw, Rashford being reshuffled on weekdays. The only guaranteed starter at this red devil side is Bruno Fernandez and he justifies his selection, week in and week out. The fight for places has made each player up their games. The effect of that is seen in the upturn of results in favor of the Manchester side.
Gone are the days where just one or two players are been relied on as the source of a goal. Goals come from anywhere these days as all the teams are contributing to the team growth. Goals are been scored by any player from any position for the red devil's side. The good thing about their side is that the bench players are also contributing as no one is left out.
This had made them edge teams like Liverpool, Tottenham, Manchester City, and Leicester City. All these teams rely on goals from one or two of their players. For Liverpool, the source of goals is from their three main forward and if thru fail to score, it's much likely the game ends with the Reds not scoring a goal.
Son and Kane take the goal scoring and assists mantle in a Tottenham side heavily dominated with attack-minded players. For man city, goals have been hard to come by as Aguero is taking the long way towards recovery. Kelvin De bruyne has taken the assist and goal mantle upon himself. For Leicester, it's Vardy and without any iota of doubt, he is the best player on the pitch.
That's an edge Manchester City enjoys. The luxury of getting goals from Rashford, Martial, Bruno Fernandez, Pogba, Cavani, and even some fringes players like James and Scott has contributed their quota. That's what makes them dangerous and should be considered for the premier league winners' gong. till May, we see if they will keep the pace up and shock the world just like they have always done in the past.
