Milya predicts

Hippopotamuses from Kaliningrad are the next exotic creatures to predict World Cup scores. Russian TV channel NTV reported two Hippopotamuses from Kaliningrad zoo named Milya and Gliasik were offered food with signs Russia and Saudi Arabia in order to get their forecast for the World Cup game yesterday. Gliasik was a bit reluctant to eat while Milya at both the 'Saudi' and 'Russian' food. 'We treat it like a draw prediction', zoo media service commented.

As reported, this was the first and the last attempt by Milya and Gliasik. Their prediction was completely wrong as Russia thrashed Saudi Arabia 5-0.

However, Kaliningrad extravaganza was not the first time when hippopotamuses predict outcomes of sports events. In February 2018 a hippo from Cincinnati Zoo called Fiona tried to predict 2018 Superbowl result. Livescience.com reported that Fiona, a 1-year-old baby hippopotamus, was the first of her species born at the Cincinnati Zoo in 75 years and the first hippo ever imaged with an ultrasound before birth. She was born 6 weeks premature, and at just 29 lbs. (13 kilograms), was the smallest baby hippo ever to survive. Fiona managed to get it right: hippo pointed at Philadelphia Eagles, who indeed won the Superbowl.
