Make no mistake to think that Liverpool have always had it easy because of our recent successes. If you have been a football follower for a while you would know that before the Champions League glory last year, Liverpool had really not experienced much in the way of Cup glory in a long while. Forget even the EPL that we haven't won in 30 years, FA Cups, EFL Cups just about anything. In some ways you could say our case was worse that what Arsenal is experiencing.

..............................

But then our fortunes began to change and in a year we won two trophies and one was the Champions League, something we had not won since that Liverpool team heroics in Istanbul against AC Milan. Every Liverpool fan around the world I'm sure was more than elated for us to finally start winning trophies and the team was looking just undefeatable. The confidence oozing from the team was glaring for everyone to see and you just knew that it would be very hard for the team to lose, maybe taking an act of Providence. They scooped up a second title, the Super Cup defeating Chelsea and we were just over the moon, two Cups in one year when last did that happen for us. Then as a mere formality the team and won a third Cup the Club World Cup. All in one year, what was going on, was the world coming to an end? Liverpool who were always the recipients of jokes and insults after Manchester United knocked us off our top spot in England. We were now the top dogs.

A new season and the team had taught us to live good things so we couldn't wait to see what they brought home this time. Maybe just maybe it would be the much coveted and sought after EPL title. And so the season began and we were winning back to back, and soon we were at the top of the EPL table (I kept telling myself calm down Frank, don't get your hopes up👀👀). But in the Champions League it was not going the same way. We lost to Napoli, and I just forgot it as the same thing happened and yet we won a treble (could it be a good omen that the same thing would happen again 🤔🤔🤔). We had to struggle and wait till the last day of Group stage matches to qualify but it was all good. Then the first leg came against Athletico Madrid and we lost, though I feel they can't keep up that defense at Anfield but we'll wait to see. After that all hell broke loose, we lost to Watford and another loss to Chelsea in the FA Cup means that the team confidence is ebbing. The team is out of the FA Cup and the unbeaten run has been ended by 19th place Watford.

.......................................

The saddest part I think is that the fear factor that other teams used to have for Liverpool is slowly dying away. Everybody now wants to have a piece of the pie and beat the League leaders and in a way we are now the underdogs trying to prove we have the stuff of Champions and can hang on. I however think they have done just enough to win the League and at this point only have to see it off and bring back the much coveted EPL Trophy. But the match I am most keen to watch at this point has to be the return leg of the match against Athletico Madrid, can they defend as they did in the Wanda Metropolitano in Anfield. I also want payback for how they made us look ordinary and toothless just knocking the ball around and not really getting any chance to bite. For now though, I'll cheer on the fact that we have almost won the EPL title. That should offer me some consolation even if we lose.
