Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney believes that the club will get back to the top of English football soon, and all they need from the fans is patience for about 2-3 years for them to assemble and build a team that will compete with the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool.

My problem with his thoughts is right now Liverpool is already exerting total dominance on the EPL, I'm sure that during the transfer window Pep Guardiola and Manchester City will go shopping to compete with them and this two will just keep taking the competition higher and keep leaving the rest of the EPL teams behind. How is Manchester United sure that in two years Liverpool and Manchester City will not have established s dominance that is synonymous to what we have in Spain or France where a side (as is the case in France) or two sides (as is the case in Spain) are always and totally dominating the league while the others have to watch and scrap for the remains.

Rooney believes that a quick fix problem like what Manchester United did with Louis Van Gaal and Jose Mourinho is not the solution, as they have to build their own team just like Liverpool and Manchester City have done.

Building their own team however will mean that the club will have to go shopping and will have to bring in new blood and let go of some who are not in sync with the team. While I side with Wayne Rooney that Manchester United need time to fix their problems in order to return to bring a top side and competitor in the EPL, I'm not sure if 2-3 years is not a rather long time for that. With the rate at which Liverpool and Manchester City are bossing the League at the moment, in 3 years time it might just we'll be too late to begin to rival them.
