The leader of UEFA and the ECA, in a meeting with the BBC, proclaim that there will be no Super League, as written on Football Leaks, but they are considering an additional League between European Team since 2024, a sort of Super Champions League. A more extensive thought of a football Europe that needs to be "more comprehensive", and give the clubs more economic possibilities. Among the speculations discussed the new Super Champions League, there is the talk of being able to play the weekend instead of national leagues. The news has nearly gone under the track and only a few national and international newspapers are paying attention to it.
Yesterday, in Brussels, UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin and ECA President (European Club Association) Andrea Agnelli, also chairman of FC Juventus, present what has been characterized as "a joint vision" and they wanted to deny the news of about 20 days ago given by football leaks on a creation of this new league exclusive for elite clubs. Agnelli said:
"I can affirm that we have never observed, never examined and never participated in drafting that report. We are completely dedicated to UEFA in the improvement of football for the future. The Super League won't occur." It is an approach to fiction now or a fantasy."
One of the positive aspects of this league with 32 teams apparently, will be to play fewer games of the national cup, probably the various national cups will be cut, and play more international matches which result in more media exposure for more clubs and consequently more revenue.
Personal opinion: Honestly I do not know if it will help the smaller teams to make more money, it will probably end up enriching the already rich and powerful clubs of today. I do not like the idea of having to play international games on weekends, the weekend for me is Serie A, for you Premier League and for the Spanish La Liga. I do not think we're ready for a change like that and we probably do not want it. I am amazed at the fact that the topic is treated little on the web and in the media, they prefer to talk about fantasy football and not give relevance to an important speech like this.
