Nigerian footballer Ola D Great, who participated in the first edition of Lagos La Liga, recently took a bold step in chasing his football dreams. He reached out to Spanish club Sevilla on X (formerly Twitter), asking how many retweets it would take to get a trial. Sevilla responded with what seemed like an impossible demand: 100,000 reposts.
For many, that number seemed out of reach, but Nigerians love a challenge, especially when it involves supporting their own. In just over 24 hours, the tweet hit the 100K target, proving once again that nothing is truly impossible when people come together.
True to their word, Sevilla—a club known for giving Nigerian players opportunities—has now reached out to Ola and offered him a trial. The La Liga side has a history of signing Nigerian talents, including Kelechi Iheanacho, Chidera Ejuke, and their latest acquisition, Akor Adams from Montpellier.
This inspiring story serves as a reminder of the power of speaking up. As Les Brown once said,
"Ask for what you want and be prepared to get it."
We wish Ola all the best—go and make Nigeria proud in La Liga!
