A thriller in which 5 of the 6 goals came in the first 40 minutes. Jean Michael Seri proved to be worth the €30m fee with a stunning shot from outside the box in the 4th minute, but it only took Jeff Hendrick a few minutes before equalizing. At 1-1, Fulham pushed forward and Mitrovic grabbed a brace in 2 minutes in the 36th and 38th. The stadium’s energy only grew when Trakowski netted the second for Burnley 3 minutes afterwards. Schurrle managed his side’s 4th in the 83rd and the game was sealed.

It was really a game of one team sitting back playing on counter attacks as the other successfully pressed them in their half. Despite conceding 4-which is very unlikely for Sean Dyche’s side- Burnley were able to make a lot of the little possession they had during the game and as usual, played on their strengths of height and physicality as they crossed almost twice as often as Fulham and won more aerial duals.

Fulham’s work in the transfer window finally paid off today, as their dominant midfield with lethal finishing in the final third almost made Burnley incapable of coping with them at some points in the game, creating chances for the wings and mid, beating Burnley’s offside trap often, and taking their chances from distance. Ryan Sessegnon didn’t really feature today, but hopefully we will see more of his magic in the upcoming games.

Fulham should produce quite a few more performances like this throughout the season and should finish in the top 10 this year. Regardless of today’s game, Burnley has a squad that can remain competitive in the middle of the Premier League table. Dyche has his team organized and if they utilize their strengths in the same way we saw last year, they could compete against any top 6 team
