Boxing Day

Boxing Day is a name or moniker as some would prefer it gotten from the old tradition of ‘’Christmas Boxes’’. This box can come in different formats as well as different content of gift, money or anything to loves ones and friends.

Originality

The age long tradition started in the United Kingdom in the 1830’s designed as holiday for servants, errand boys and post men to get different types of Christmas box as ‘’thank for good service throughout the year’’ servants are given bonuses, take home box as well as leftover food of Christmas. However, this tradition has under gone many modifications and not limited to servants.

In the Catholic Church during ‘’Feast of Saint Stephen’’ metal boxes were place at the entries of the church to collect special offering/gift for the poor.

Once in a year celebration

Boxing Day comes once in a year immediately after the Christmas celebration. This day is celebrated worldwide and it’s a day special to bring the rich closer to the less privilege as would prefer that to poor because nobody is really poor.

Childhood belief

Growing up as a child, me and my siblings would always look up for the Boxing Day because no matter what happened dad and mum will get us something to cheer with. That has been the tradition till I graduated from the university and its my turn to return those box.

I grew up with the belief that this day was for boxers and that on a boxing day, punches are meant to be thrown around according to the name. Hope you though the same? Hahahahahah

Boxing Day in sport

In the United Kingdom, boxing day is design to host matches among the different tier of leagues and sport. Before now, Boxing Day matches were meant for local rival teams to play against each other to prevent fans travelling long distance to watch matches even though this has change but the mood still remain the same.

In the premier league many fans are expected to go watch their teams as well celebrate the festive season. there are a lot of football fixtures lined up for the boxing day.

Watford Vs Chelsea

Chelsea will pay a visit to Watford to get all three points to get them back in the a firm grip of the top four teams after a disappointed 1-0 lost to Leicester city in their last match while Watford will look forward to continue a good run of form after their 2-0 win over West Ham.

Brighton Vs Arsenal

Unai Emery boys will travel to the south coast to play against Brighton; who has lost three consecutive matches as they fight to get a place in the top four on the log having beaten Burnley last week.

Tottenham Vs Bournemouth

Tottenham host Bournemouth as they look forward to their five consecutive wins and are really looking like the dark horse in the race for the EPL title. Bournemouth won Brighton in their last match amidst their inconsistent form.
