A brace from Diogo Jota was all Liverpool needed last night to bypass Leicester City to keep themselves within nine points behind Manchester City with a game in hand. This victory means that Liverpool is the only Premier League side yet to lose a game at home. Anfield remains a fortress for any visiting teams as Liverpool has won 11 out of their last 15 matches on this ground.

Uninformed Leicester City were another victim of this ground as they clashed with Liverpool. The home side dominated the game from the get go and was rewarded with their first goal of the game on the 34th minute when Leicester City keeper Kasper Schmeichel parried which fell onto Diogo Jota who fired in a close-range shot to put Liverpool in the front foot.

Liverpool had to wait till the 87th minute to seal the game when Matip made a beautiful pass to Diogo Jota who burried the ball into the net despite Kasper Schmeichel having a touch of the ball but his efforts wasn't enough to keep the ball off.

Jota's two goals tally in the game made it a total of 17 goals in all competitions this season for him after starting ahead of Mohamed Salah who came in late as a substitute after returning from the African Cup of nation. Salah who was given a clapping ovation as it was introduced to the game had 3 good moments to score of which one hit the woodwork and the keeper making two saves to deny him a goal. Mane on the other hand missed out of the squad list after returning very late following their victory in AfCON.

Diogo Jota who won the man of the match is having the best season of his life as his 17 goals so far in all conditions remain the best single-season of his career. The Portuguese international will be hoping to continue his fine form for the Reds as they keep their hope of catching up with the league leader; Man City in the title race.
