I was engulfed this evening contemplating what to write when it struck my mind what happens ball when two players scores a hat trick in a match because traditionally when a hat trick is recorded in a game, the referee hands the ball to this player. Hat trick is a very popular word widely used the sports especially football. The term which was originated form cricket whsich mean triple is when a player scores three goals in a match.

Even though these fit is very rare in games but what happened player of the same team or opposite teams records their names on the scorer’s sheet on hat trick. I tired looking up for the rules from the FIFA website since it is the highest decision making body of football but I saw absolutely nothing related to that. I was really lost in the argument online by football fans and pundit as to what to do with the ball. While some argued that the player who scored the goal the quickest get to go home with the ball while others said that since not only a ball is used in a football match, both players can go with ball each.

I was move to deepen my research on cases of such magnitude and what the position of the referee was. In a Copa Del Rey which saw both Messi and Luiz Suarez bagging hat tricks in a 7-1 demolition of Valencia on February 3rd 2016, while Suarez scored four goals in that encounter, Messi scored three goals. At the end of the game both players had to leave the pitch with a ball each.

The same incidence happened in a seria A in a match between Empoli and Juventus that ended in a 3-3 score line that had Tommaso Rocchi recording a hat trick as well David Trezequet for the old ladies in an equalizer but the player that scored the quickest was awarded the ball.

Sadi Mane has the record of the fastest hat trick in premier league when he score three goals in two minutes 35 seconds for his Southampton side against Aston villa in May, 2015 which deleted Fowler’s four minutes 33 seconds for Liverpool versus Arsenal. Ronaldo is credited to have gotten the highest hat trick in La liga while Messi is dominant in UEFA Champions League.

Though we may not see this type of cases often in a season or for a long time in a game, am tempted to side with the argument that the player with the quickest of the two should go home with the ball as this will make it more interesting but rewarding both players for their input in the game is worthwhile.
