WOW! This is the weakest squad I've seen to date and we are hit by an injury crisis at the worst possible time. It will be a gross injustice to Lopetegui, if he has to take the blame for our losses, with half our team in the hospital. I mean we were playing just fine a couple of weeks ago. Things were steady and everyone was happy. A couple of injuries completely derailed the season off track. Add just two more injuries to this list and you'll probably see us getting kicked out of the CL in the group stage and there is literally nothing any manager could have done about that.
To be honest, we've spread ourselves too thin and an early-season crash should most likely be attributed to that and not anything else.
Reminds me of the 2014-15 season. We had been playing so well. The best attacking football I saw from us. Come January, we had lost our lead to Barca, and eventually went trophyless that season.
It doesn't matter when an injury crisis hits you, whether at the start or towards the end. The results are always compromised and the season almost always goes off track. This is another element which makes it hard to win a league competition.
