Thierry Henry soon became the coach of the Ligue 1 club Girondins Bordeaux season 2018/2019. The former Barcelona striker replaced Gus Poyet who decided to resign from the team's coaching chair.

Despite the inaugural week of the Ligue 1 2018/2019 season, Bordeaux currently does not have a coach. Quoted from ESPN on Wednesday (08/22/2018), Henry has agreed to become the captain of the club. The news of the appointment came just a day after compatriot Arsene Wenger revealed that Henry would coach a club in France.

"Yes, he (Henry) wants to be a Bordeaux coach, he is smart and has quality. The question we always ask ourselves is whether we are ready to sacrifice our lives for the coaching profession," said Wenger, who was on a long vacation in Corsica, told Corse Matin local newspaper.

Henry has taken his first tentative steps into the world of coaching after previously only working as a football pundit on one British television. He also became an assistant to the national team coach at the 2018 World Cup.
