The date is October 29th,a Monday....moanday actually,I can tell Julen is hypertensive,he is worried, wherever he was,he didn't get enough sleep, rest the previous night.....a Sunday.
Something very bad had happened,he has been on the receiving end of a very disastrous football scoreline, his team has been trashed 5-1,five goals has passed his goal keeper,a high profile goal keeper, and the instruments of this heinous crime we're their arch rivals, Barcelona, such result between this two teams have not happened in recent memory, and to cap it all up,he has been the coach of this loosing side,so he stood and watched, helpless,as his gladiators fell in footballs arena.
Now his team sits ninth in the laliga table, seven points behind their rivals.barcelona.
He awaits the Madrid board,he wants to hear from them, they are making him wait,he does not like this.....what is the worst that could happen.....a sack?he had thought of this possibility before today.
But it felt unfair to him,he had only oversaw how many league matches...ten?(10) and fourteen (14) across all competitions and he is about to be giving his matching orders.
Anyway, the wait won't be long now,he will find out soon enough.
He has been under alot of pressure for a while now,he had only won once out of seven matches in all competitions, that is indeed a poor return.
It wasn't like this at the beginning, that 1-0 defeat from Alaves on October 6 was the start of his and the teams conundrum.
Now he awaits the board of directors meeting Which will ultimately decide his fate and that meeting is today!
He is not having high hopes about a positive outcome from the meeting anyway,a team that had won the champions league back to back, the only side to achieve such feet is on a free fall, loosing games like their lives depends on it,if he was a member of the board,he too would like to implement some changes, let it come across that they are being proactive to at least salvage the remaining part of the season.
And so it followed that when he heard from the board and knew he had been shown the exit door and somehow felt he was the scapegoat as the club talked of the quality of the footballing staffs which had eight players norminated for the next balloon d'or and how their is a great disproportion between the teams quality and the results being obtained,he understood.
Now after only ten league games and four defeats he has been giving his matching orders and with that earned his place among footballs disastrous coaching reigns with the likes of David Moyes et al.
It has not really been entirely his fault but in football if a team is not playing well, the people that usually takes the fall are the coaches, the solution the board comes up with is let's sack the coach.
Maybe because it is more economical that way, imagine that all the players are not playing to their usual standards,it is safe to say they all led the coach down as they are the one's on the pitch, some not even following instructions, isco, one of his charges, said the blame should not be entirely kept at the feet of their manager as they-the players are as guilty as him and so the blame should be shared.
But the board cannot decide to sack all eleven first team players and so they usually decide to crop the head off, with the hope that, that change or act will galvanize the team.
The previous coaches has had a certain Ronaldo,a player that assured them a 50 goals return across competitions every season, when it was his time to benefit from the Portuguese goal scoring abilities,he was shipped off to Juventus.
This is a squad that needed some additions and modifications, did his predecessor zinedine zidane forsaw this and decided to bow out when the ovation was still loud?it is looking highly likely now.
Maybe the players needed more motivation, maybe fresh hungry blood injected to the side, players wanting to make their names heard or being sung at the stands by the crowd was what was needed for this team.
The old guards did let their coach down......all of a sudden verane and Ramos stopped putting up great defending.
For all the exploits modric made at the world cup,it would seem he became tired because he also continually under performed.
With Ronaldo out of the picture, you will excuse fans and pundits if they thought bale will light up the Santiago bernabu as the "main man",much to our dismay,he has not lived up to the billing, his display in the El clasico was not impressive either.
Benzema have not really been a prolific goal scorer, some will argue that it is hard shining on when you have a Ronaldo imposing on you....he takes away all the light, well he departed, benzema continued being well, benzema.
The whole squad failed, some may argue they give it their best shot, but at the end,it wasn't good enough and the coach ultimately became the casualty.
Sometimes he must have wondered why he left the bench at the Spanish international team as head coach to come and lead real Madrid.
It felt like a good decision at the time, and now it appears like a not so smart move.
For one thing, there is a huge chance that he will have still been at the helm of affairs as the national team coach of the Spanish team.
And he would have avoided this unwanted record of being sacked at Madrid after just 14 games in all competitions.
But he knows better than crying over spilled milk, thinking what might have been or hitting back at the club for the way they handled his dismissal.
Instead he is thankful for the opportunity to have served the club, and the fans and players support.
This is not the end of your managerial career Julen lopetegui's,cheer up sire, you know what they sir...."you win some and you loose some", another good club will sure find you,we are rooting for you to bounce back!
This is my entry to sir @pete's,moanday contest.
