Medipol Basaksehir reacted hard to the recent Arda Turan scandal where he got into a brawl with a well-known Turkish pop singer in a nightclub and imposed a record-breaking fine on his player.

After his scandal in a nightclub and after that in the hospital and his behaviour towards the Turkish singer Berkay and his wife, Arda Turan's actions did not only have legal consequences (the public prosecutor's office investigated). Also sporty consequences followed now.

The current club of the 100-time (former) Turkish national player, Medipol Basaksehir, declared on Tuesday that a fine of 2.5 million TL had been imposed on the 31-year-old left-winger as a reaction to his misconduct: "Our board met unscheduled at 19:30 on 15 October. The only topic of the meeting was the personnel of Arda Turan. The accusations against our player regarding certain events that were supposed to have occurred during the three-day holiday period of the players during the international break and the wide-ranging media reports forced us to react. Such behaviour is in no way in accordance with the moral and ethical guidelines of our club. For this reason we have imposed a fine of 2.5 million TL. We reserve the right to impose further fines as long as the legal action taken against our player is under review," said the club statement.

Turan joined Basaksehir in January 2018 on loan from FC Barcelona. The loan period ends in June 2020 and the midfielder's contract in Barcelona expires at the same time. Instead of drawing attention to himself in sports, Turan, who was born in Bayrampasa/Istanbul, has so far tended to make negative headlines. He is still serving a ten-game suspension after his verbal derailments and gestures against referees Yaşar Kemal Uğurlu on the 32nd matchday of the Süper Lig in the match against Sivasspor last season. The disciplinary committee (PFDK) had demanded 16 games as a ban before the arbitration court (Tahkim Kurulu) reduced the ban by six games.
